TYR
(1986, 2010)

THE villain Tyr has
the honor of being the first Legion-related character to have an
action figure made.
In 1984, DC Comics awarded the master toy license
of their heroes to Kenner Products, which devised hidden
mechanisms within the figures that would trigger an action when
their legs or arms were squeezed. This emphasis on the "super
powers" led to the naming of the line The Super Powers
Collection.
In all, three series of figures and accessories
were released (in 1984, 1985, and 1986), but after three years of
production the line collapsed. Tyr came with a firing hand gun that
could launch when his legs were clutched a clever feature
as in the comics, Tyrs lethal limb was also detachable.
As the text on the pack states: Tyr is equipped
with a powerful bionic gun in place of one of his real arms. The
gun can fire powerful energy blasts, and can somehow control the
minds of others. The gun can detach itself from Tyr's body and fly
away, in the event he is captured.

IN 2010, more than
20 years after the Kenner release, another Tyr figure was produced,
part of Wave 14 of the DC UNIVERSE CLASSICS toy line. Unlike its
counterpart of the 70s, the cannon arm is not detachable. The figure
came with a Collector Button featuring Tyr's image.
